I have years of spreadsheets that have been following different theories and strategies. I've always used the spreadsheets before actually putting money at risk.

Ultimately, it was very easy distilling the data from the spreadsheets and from my actual trading history into a book.

The hard part was collecting "screen shots" from my trading account that actually demonstrated the points. If I was smart, I would have been collecting those all along, but I never imagined that I would ever put it all together into a book.
